A: Trio accessories are changed just like Dremel rotary tool accessories – using a shaft-lock button and a collet/collet nut system. To change accessories push the shaft lock button on the tool’s front and use the Dremel Trio wrench to loosen the collet nut.
A: No. Though Trio accessories look and work like standard rotary tool accessories, they are specially engineered to handle the demands placed upon them by this slower yet more powerful tool.
A: The Dremel Trio only accepts accessories with 3/16” shanks. Rotary tools, on the other hand, use accessories with shank diameters ranging from of 1/8” to 1/32”. This means you can’t use Trio accessories in your Dremel rotary tool – and you can’t use rotary tool accessories in your Trio (and there are no “conversion collets” available allowing you to do so).
A: Dremel Trio accessories have unique packaging and are clearly labeled to help differentiate Trio accessories from rotary tool accessories at POS.
A: No. The Trio does not have a threaded nose cap that is capable of accepting rotary tool attachments.
A: The Trio does accept attachments which attach either to the interface that is used to mount the tool’s foot or to foot itself. A Circle Cutter/Straight Edge Guide and a Dust Port Adapter are both currently available for the Trio; and there are several other attachments, including variations on the tool’s foot, on the way.
A: The Trio’s spiral cutting action allows you to make plunge cuts and to scroll cut in any direction – two things that you can’t do using a tool that works using a reciprocating cutting action. Your ability to make plunge cuts means you’ll no longer have to drill pilot holes when making internal cuts on a workpiece. And, the Trio tool’s capacity for 360 ° of scrolling freedom ensures a consistently optimal line-of-sight without requiring you to constantly re-orient your tool or move around your workpiece.
A: The Trio can cut up to 5/8” drywall, up to ½” thick wood, and up to 22 gauge sheet metal with the Hardwood/Sheet Metal accessory. With capacities in mind, the tool was designed with an overload protection system which manages users employing too much force or drawing too much current by automatically reducing the tool’s output RPM to indicate a problem.
A: The Trio is a unique tool that was purpose built to cut, sand, and rout. Rotary tools and jigsaws were designed and optimized for other specific applications, or with a broader spectrum of applications in mind. The Trio provides the right amount of power and drives accessories at the optimal speed to complete its three primary objectives - and the tool’s ergonomics provide much more comfort and control than your standard rotary tool or jigsaw.
A: It is best to use a straight edge guide or ripping fence when you need to cut a perfectly straight line using the Trio. A cutting bit’s counter-clockwise direction of rotation makes the tool feel as though it wants to pull slightly to the left during linear cuts. To counter this you should position a ripping fence to the left of the tool or use the Straight Edge Guide and position it on the tool’s right side.
A: Loosen the thumb screw on the side of the tool to allow the foot to telescope (move up or down). Since the foot is held in place using a friction fit you may need to rock the foot a little after loosening the thumb screw before it dislodges enough to telescope up or down. You don’t need to completely remove the thumbscrew to move the foot up and down.
A: Loosen and completely remove the depth-adjustment thumbscrew from the tool. Once the thumbscrew has been completely removed the base can be removed and you can switch the metal base with the compact depth guide.
A: The compact depth guide is a light weight alternative to the metal base; it’s great for getting into tight places and it provides additional comfort when working on a wall or overhead. It also has a dust port to keep your workplace clean. Additionally, its round side and front allow it to be used to trace curved patterns or templates. But remember - adjust the size of your template such that it accounts for the 1” distance between the side of the base and the cutting bit itself.
A: The Dremel Trio is available at a suggested retail of $99.99 and is equipped with a basic set of accessories allowing consumers to start cutting, sanding, and routing immediately upon purchase. Additional accessories and attachments are available individually - with some of the more heavily consumed accessories available in bulk packs.
