I am a Bookbinder, and an artist with a passion towards excellence. It’s the ultimate reward to create something from nothing—there’s a supernatural quality to making things and emerging with a piece that is simply beautiful. And Dremel tools help get me there.
Trained as a fine artist since I was eight, and later as an industrial designer, I’m a bookbinder with a combination of artistic and technological skills. I believe it’s necessary for me to embrace technology as a way to facilitate my bookbinding work. That’s where Dremel tools step in.
Dremel tools simplify my tasks. For me, it doesn’t make sense to do things in an antiquated way. I use Dremel tools to push art through simple, yet precise engineering.
As a bookbinder, my Dremel rotary tool tackles the precision work, the important details that I couldn’t accomplish as easily without it. With Dremel tools, I can see tangibly my work in a unique way.
Bookbinding and my Dremel tool: Details are the most important thing in my craft. Here are just a few aspects of bookbinding where Dremel tools really improve my final pieces:
- Drilling precise holes through the wooden book covers so I can run material that holds the whole book together
- Carve sections of the covers to create different degrees of 3D space – I don’t just create flat book covers
- I use my Dremel Scroll Saw to cut wood in various shapes for book cover designs
- Treating and shaping leather spines happens a lot in my studio, too
