How to Personalise a Baby Cot

First things first: to start this project, unscrew the side of the baby bed you want the design to be on. In most baby beds, normal screws are used, so you can easily detach the wooden side using a screwdriver. Make sure you keep the screws in a safe place, because you’ll need them to reassemble the bed at the end of the project.  If you haven’t done it yet, print out the design you want to use. We opted for a cute little bear drawing, which you can use for this project.

Now you’ve prepared all the things you’ll need, it’s time to get started on your custom-made baby cot! In this step, you’ll be tracing the design you just printed out. The easiest way to do this is to use carbon paper underneath the printed design. Stick the carbon paper with the design on top onto the side of the cot with adhesive tape to make sure the design doesn’t move while tracing. Go carefully over the lines of the drawing with a pencil or a pen. Done? Remove the design from the wood and voilà: your drawing has now been transferred.

Let’s engrave the design! Insert the Carbide Engraving Tip (9924) into your Dremel Engraver (290-1). These handy tools are great for engraving a wide variety of materials such as metal, glass, wood, plastics and ceramics. Slowly go over the lines you just drew with the engraver. A steady hand is useful here! Finished engraving? Great job, you’ve reached the last step!

The last step is probably the easiest. Engraving can produce a lot of wood dust, but don’t worry: you can use a paint brush to wipe away any residue from the grooves. Then, simply use a vacuum cleaner or dustpan to clean up the rest. Now, there’s only one thing left to do: reattach the wooden side of the cot. Remember where you put your screws? Grab them and use a screwdriver to reassemble the baby bed. Congratulations, your baby’s sure to have sweet dreams in this cute cot!
