Step 1

Distress the wood

You need:

This is the perfect project to use up scrap lumber you’ve had leftover from previous projects! We found extra wood in our storage room, and gave the wood a weathered look using a drill with a paint stripping wheel to distress the wood. Gently run the wheel across the wood to get the affect to your liking.

Step 2

Cut the pieces of wood using the Dremel Ultra-Saw

You need:

Using the Dremel Ultra-Saw and wood cutting wheel, cut the pieces of wood to the desired length. We based our size off of the amount of scrap wood we had to work with.

Step 3

Cut the wood using the Moto-Saw

You need:

Then, using the Moto-Saw, cut each of the shorter ends of the wood to make it look ragged and ridged. The Moto-Saw allows you to make tight turns to give the ridged detail seen in the image.

Finally, assemble the pattern using glue to attach the wooden pieces. We used screws and a drill to attach our vintage knocker, but this application varies per knocker. Follow directions per your specific knocker.
