Often times, the secrets behind some of the most successful makers and craftsman aren’t so secret. Whether it’s designing modern furniture or handcrafting guitars inspired by flamenco and Moorish architecture, the drive remains the same: passion. It’s certainly true of Teye Wijnterp of Teye Guitars. His passion for guitars started when he was young. He took it with him to Austin, Texas, and later to Seville, in Spain. It was here that his passion collided with another: flamenco dance. In this video, we learn about his journey towards crafting some of the world’s most beautiful guitars. Be inspired to experiment with your passions – you never know where it might lead.

Meet Teye Wijnterp, guitar lover, maker and the man behind Teye Guitars. Born in the Dutch province of Friesland, Teye was captivated by music from a young age. He received his first guitar at age 10, and did his first ‘customisation’ job five years later. On his first visit to Córdoba, in Spain, he cemented his love for classical and flamenco music, and never looked back. After years travelling for love and music, Teye settled in Seville, where he customises guitars with his trusty Dremel Multi-Tool. Here – and in his other workshop in Nashville, Tennessee – he utilises engraving and routing techniques. His work is very much inspired by flamenco, as well as Moorish architecture, which is famous in his home city of Seville. These days, he makes customised guitars for musicians of all levels, from guitar lovers to country-music superstars.
