Whether you’re looking to update a vintage car, beef up a muscle car or detail a luxury vehicle, Dremel tools help get the job done. Car enthusiasts no longer need to rely on their local body shop to trick out their rides.
“Dremel tools make the car fanatic’s life a breeze,” said Andrea Ash, director of marketing communications for Dremel. “A Dremel tool, with its ability to get into tight spots can be used in dozens of ways from polishing chrome to sanding rusty areas and cutting bolts, trim or muffler pipe.”
Installing Car Stereo Speakers
Making a car stereo system bump to the rhythm of the music is no longer a task just for the professionals. With modern day technology and the versatility of Dremel products, the average do-it-yourselfer can make the installation flow with ease. The Dremel 400 Series XPR Rotary Tool along with the #565 Multipurpose Cutting Kit makes installing speakers as easy as one-two-three.
Start off by tracing the pattern of the speakers on the car dash or door panels. Most car stereo kits come equipped with a template or you can create your own by tracing the inside ridge of the speaker. Next, using the Dremel 400 Series XPR and multipurpose cutter #561 along with cutting guide, carefully cut along the traced outline. Then drill screw starter holes with a slightly smaller bit than the diameter of the screws that will be used to fasten the speaker and faceplate. The Cutting Guide Kit includes the #561, which retails for $18.99 and is compatible with the 400 Series XPR (SRP $79-149).
Polishing Shiny Surfaces On Cars
To keep your rims looking like new, you need more than the everyday wash and wax. Car surface materials, such as chrome, steel and aluminum, require extra attention and care to maintain a luminous shine.
Using the Dremel Lithium-Ion Cordless, the #402 Mandrel and the #423 1” Cloth Wheel, you can clean tire rims, polishing hard-to-reach areas. Before polishing the shiny surfaces, consider adding duct tape to the surrounding areas of the chrome or metal surface. The tape will protect those surfaces that you don't want polished.
From car tire rims to license plate holders and chrome consoles, the versatility of Dremel products can keep car surfaces clean and looking like new. Dremel accessories can help remove small scratches or buff away grim to reveal a shiny glossy finish. The #402 Mandrel retails for $2.99 and the #423 Cloth Wheel retails for $2.99. Cutting an Exhaust Pipe
Spicing up your ride can be as simple as replacing an old rusty tailpipe with a shiny, new one. Begin by making sure there will be enough solid tailpipe remaining after you remove the rusted section to secure your new tailpipe. Next, cut the old rusted tailpipe off, using the Dremel Lithium-Ion Cordless. The #402 Mandrel (SRP $2.99) and the #426 Fiberglass Reinforced Cut- off Wheel (SRP $6.99 per pack) allow you to easily cut through the rusted pipe to remove it. When cutting, hold the Dremel tightly with both hands to ensure exact control. After cutting the pipe, remove any remaining rough edges using the #932 Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone. Proceed in securing the new tailpipe.
