Step By Step Instructions
Cutting the wooden dowels
Begin by cutting down the 1.9 centimeter square wood dowels to the required sizes. For two lanterns, cut 4 pieces to 11 centimeters long, 4 pieces to 9 centimeters long, and 16 pieces to 4 centimeters long. Utilize the Dremel Compact Saw for precision cutting, although your Rotary Tool with a cutting disk or bit can also serve this purpose.
Gluing and assembling
Once all pieces are cut, proceed to assemble the lanterns. Sandwich the 10.16 cm pieces between two longer pieces, applying wood glue on the ends before clamping together. Use a scrap piece of dowel as a straight edge for alignment before clamping. Repeat this process until all pieces are attached as illustrated in the photo.
Sanding
After allowing the glue to dry, use your Dremel Max with the oscillating sanding paper or your Dremel Rotary Tool with the sanding disc to sand and smooth the lanterns. Sand off any dried glue, rough edges, or uneven seams to ensure a polished finish.
Staining or Painting
Once sanded, apply stain or paint in the color of your choice to the lanterns. For example, these were stained with Minwax Special Walnut for an elegant finish.
Decoration
To adorn the lanterns, place faux battery-powered candles in the center and layer with fresh or faux florals to suit your wedding theme. Voilà!
