Holiday Mantel Hooks

How to build charming mantel hooks for holiday season

You need
  • No utilities needed
  • 1/2" Pine Luan Plywood (approx. 2' x 3' piece)
  • 3' length of 1/2 x 6" pine board
  • Semi-gloss or gloss interior latex paint in the colors of your choice

Tracing the hook pattern onto the plywood

Begin by printing out the provided template & tracing the hook pattern 3 times onto the 1/2" plywood. We are making 3 stocking hangers that will notch into the 3 ft pine base.

Cutting the pattern using the Dremel Ultra-Saw

Make all straight cuts on the pattern using the Ultra-Saw

Cutting the curved hook shape using the Dremel Moto-Saw

Using the Moto-Saw, cut the hangers apart and contour cut them individually to the final curved hook shape.

Sanding the edges using the Multi-Max

Sand/smooth and round all of the edges using the Multi-Max.

Marking the positions on the board

Mark the desired positions for the hanger cutouts on the pine board base.

Plunge cutting with the Multi-Max

Plunge cut the marked notches with the Multi-Max and remove the cut material from the holes.

Inserting the hangers into the board

Insert the hangers into the notches to check the fit. Disassemble hooks from base and paint as desired. Reassemble finished unit, place on mantel and enjoy!
