Learn how to create an interactive, intelligent dog toy using Dremel® tools. This clever DIY project features a drawer with a pull cord that hides a treat for your dog to find and enjoy. Perfect for keeping your pet entertained and mentally stimulated!
Assemble the Drawer and Box
Start by using the Dremel Glue Gun to stick together ten pre-cut birch plywood sheets. Create an open-top drawer and a box that is open at the front. Make sure everything is aligned correctly.
Sand the Edges with a Dremel 3000
Once the glue is dry, use the Dremel 3000 with sanding bands to carefully sand the edges of both the drawer and the box, ensuring a smooth finish.
Mark for the Pull Handle
Take a ruler and mark two spots in the center of the drawer, 4 inches apart. These will be the locations for attaching the pull cord handle.
Step 4: Attach the Rope Handle
Cut a 10-inch piece of rope and tie a knot at each end. Screw the knots into the marked spots on the drawer. Ensure the screw tips slightly protrude from the opposite side of the plywood.
Step 5: Cut Off the Screw Ends
Using the Dremel 3000 with the EZ SpeedClic SC456 metal cutting wheel, trim the ends of the screws inside the drawer to prevent any sharp edges from sticking out.
Step 6: Paint the Outer Box
Customize your dog toy by painting the outer box with your desired design. Use eco-friendly acrylic paints to make the box visually appealing and safe for your pet.
