Introduction
Create a quiet outdoor sanctuary that you can enjoy year-round. Visit outdoor markets and yard sales this spring to find an old bench perfect for restoration.
Prepare Your Garden Bench: Clean and Smooth the Surface for Tile Installation
Original Title: Brush or vacuum off any excess debris. Next, grind down the benchtop using a Dremel Multi-Max tool with an MM920 carbide rasp to create a smooth, even surface for laying new tile.
Design and Install Tiles: Cut and Lay Them for a Stunning Bench Makeover
Lay out your tile design next to your bench. Cut tiles to size as needed using the Dremel Saw-Max fit with the SM540 Diamond Wheel Blade. Pour a thin layer of mortar or grout - here we laid 1/2" of sanded grout. Lay your cut tiles into the mortar bed and let dry completely.
Final Touches: Set, Grout, and Seal Your Newly Tiled Garden Bench
Allow the tiles to set overnight. Once tiles are set, use a grout float to add extra grout between tiles. Additionally, you may want to apply a grout sealer to protect against mold and mildew. Wipe the surface clean of excess grout and sealer when finished.
