Introduction

Holiday homes for your fine feathered friends were never so charming! These decorative and functional birdhouses add a personalized touch to your home, be it indoors or out.

You need
  • No utilities needed
  • VRT1-1/5 Vacuum Powered Rotary Tool
  • Several small wooden bird houses (widely available at home, craft or hardware stores)
  • Semi-gloss or gloss interior latex paint in the colors of your choice
  • Scrap pine boards (to practice your etching/engraving technique)
  • A string of holiday lights (either interior or the larger exterior style) if you choose to light your finished houses from the inside.

Begin by sketching out a design to be engraved using the attachments for your rotary tool.

Test your engraving and carve out the design

Carve out the design, taking care to use the attachment best suited to the type of line or texture you want to achieve. Tip: You may want to have a scrap piece of painted pine board handy as a test piece to hone your skills prior to working on the actual bird house.

Use the drill router attachment to make a hole at back

Use the drill/router attachment for your Dremel tool to make a hole in the back of the houses if you choose to add interior lighting to your Tiny Town.
