How to Make a Pet Stairs

Cut all of your wood to size using your Dremel DSM20 Circular Saw with the DSM500 Multipurpose Carbide cutting wheel (DSM500) to create:

(x2) 2.5 cm x 15.2 cm x 33 cm for bottom left and bottom right planks

(x2) 2.5 cm x 15.2 cm x 16.5 cm for the top left and top right planks 

(x2) 2.5 cm x 15.2 cm x 29.2 cm for the bottom closed riser and the base brace

(x2) 2.5 cm x 17.8 cm x 29.2 cm for the top closed riser

Drill pockets holes using a pocket hole jig  in order to attach the top plank to the bottom plank using pocket screws. This will ensure your pieces of wood are perfectly aligned, as well as sturdy and secure for your pet!

Attach the bottom closed riser to the front of the bottom side planks countersinking the side screws ensuring they are flush and out of harm’s way. This ensures your pet is safe when using these pet stairs.

Attach the back brace to the rear of the pet stairs using the same counter screwing method as step 3. These 2 steps are important to ensure your pet stairs are strong and secure.

Attach the second closed riser to the stringers, measuring 2.5 cm  down and 0.9 cm in from front. While this riser was built using a 2.5 cm x 17.8 cm piece of wood, to have it sit below the bottom step, an alternative would be to use a 2.5 cm x  15.24 cm piece to have it sit flush with the step. The choice is yours!

Finally you can attach the steps. Place the piece of wood on top of one of the riser planks and in line with the rest of the stairs. Then use 2 small screws on each side to secure it in place, don’t forget to counter sink these to0! Repeat this for the other step. Congratulations! Your steps are officially done! You're now ready to fill your holes with wood putty, sand, prime and paint.
