Step 1 5

Mark your design on the wall tiles

Marking the upcycled tiles with a pencil.

Begin by envisioning the shape and style of your coasters. Sketch various designs on paper until you find one that resonates with your aesthetic preferences. Consider themes, patterns, and sizes to ensure your coasters align with your desired home decor.

Once you've settled on a design, carefully transfer it onto the ceramic tiles using a pencil. Take your time to ensure accuracy and precision in your outlines, as this will serve as the foundation for the cutting process.

Step 2 5

Cut the ceramic tiles

Cutting the tiles for the DIY coasters.

It’s time to start having fun! Take your Dremel Multi Tool and your DREMEL wall tile cutting kit (566) specific to the cutting of ceramic and tiles. Be careful to always protect yourself with gloves and glasses.

Remember to position your cutting guide flat so that you can easily follow the pencil lines you've drawn beforehand  and start cutting. Be gentle with your movements and don't hesitate to increase the power of your Dremel for greater cutting precision.

On this project, we chose to make a very random shape to recall the shapes of the 70s.

Step 3 5

Smoothen the ceramic shapes

Sanding the upcycled tiles.

Once the cutting is complete, shift your focus to refining the edges of your coasters. Utilize a 19.8 mm silicon carbide grinding wheel (85422) to meticulously sand down any rough or uneven edges.

This meticulous step is essential for achieving a polished finish and ensuring that your coasters exude a professional allure. Take your time to finesse each edge, maintaining consistency and symmetry throughout the refinement process.

Step 4 5

Wooden surface to finish you coasters

Using a pencil on the upcycled tiles.

Elevate the aesthetic appeal of your coasters by incorporating fine wood or cork as a complementary base. Utilize the coasters themselves as templates to trace and cut the wood or cork to the appropriate size and shape.

Employ the Spiral Cutting Bit Multipurpose (561) in conjunction with the cutting guide to ensure precision and accuracy during the cutting process. Affix the wood or cork to the underside of the coasters using a reliable adhesive, ensuring a secure and seamless bond.

Should the wood or cork protrude slightly, utilize a fine-grain sanding band (432) to delicately remove any excess material, resulting in a flawless finish that exudes sophistication.
